This elegant hostess gown is in a delicate watercolor print by jewelry designer Alex Monroe for Liberty of London.  The artist was inspired by the following passage from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland.

”O Tiger – Lily!” said Alice, addressing herself to one that was waving gracefully about in the wind, ”I wish you could talk!”
”We can talk,” said the Tiger Lily: ”when there’s anybody worth talking to.” – Lewis Carroll

Tiny dragonflies flit in and out of graceful tiger lilies in rose highlighted with bright pink.  Bright pink silk capri pants can be glimpsed under the full skirt, which opens on one side.  A bright pink silk, hand fringed sash ties at the waist.

Ciara, a vibrant print from Liberty’s 2014 collection, is like visiting a tropical island filled with exotic flowers and plants.  This spicy party dress has an off the shoulder, dropped waist bodice with a ruched bust highlighted with colorful beads.  The skirt is made full by layers of bright orange tulle.  A magenta silk bow belt defines the waist.

This Liberty fabric is appropriately named Wild Flowers.  It is one of the most beautiful fabrics I have ever seen.  Every time I look at it, I see something that I missed.

“Wild Flowers by Su Blackwell is a recollection of early childhood journeys across the British landscape in discovery of native flora. This joyous Liberty fabric was initially inspired by illustrations from an early 19th Century book, ‘Field Guide to Wild Flowers in Britain’.”

The dress has a voluminous bubble skirt and strapless bodice, defined by a yellow silk bow and band detail.

This Liberty of London print is a delicate watercolor of buttercups, clover, and chamomile scattered on a white ground, perfect for Spring!  The gown has a boat neck and flowing, floor length skirt that is open on one side, revealing the silk capri pants beneath.  The pants are made of sunny yellow silk taffeta, matching the hand fringed sash at the waist.

This whimsical print is a new Liberty of London print described as follows:

“A fun and conversational print, the Forget-Me-Nots fabric design displays the contents of a modern Liberty lady’s handbag, including Liberty print address books and diaries as well as the daily essentials. It represents Liberty’s beautiful Handbag Room on the Ground Floor.”

Poppy is the perfect model for this flirty strapless sundress with a sweetheart neckline, defined by a band and bow in coral silk.  The full skirt has a spring green tulle underskirt.  The cute bolero jacket in spring green silk noil is fully lined in the Liberty print.

Based on a fashion worn by Mitzi Gaynor in the movie “For Love or Money” from 1963.

Although the original was in white and yellow with a pattern of sweet peas, I chose to use this Liberty of London fabric in navy blue printed with red and orange pansies because it was similar in scale to the original.  The fashion consists of a floor length gown that is open on one side, revealing a pair of red silk capri pants.  A red silk sash with fringed ends defines the waist.
