News from Bellissima Couture

Posted on

I have had a number of people ask me why Bellissima Couture has not been listing items for sale for the last month.  I have been very busy with projects related to an exciting new doll event that makes its debut next week in New York City!  The OOAK Doll Festival is organized by Rocky Schmidt, Magia 2000, and Ninimomo.

This is a very exclusive event limited to just over 100 attendees from all over the world.  The theme of the festival is OOAK, or One of a Kind, and I am so pleased to be taking part.  Some of the events planned are a “make your own One of a Kind doll,” an “Unconventional Materials” Challenge (familiar to Project Runway fans), and a “Golden Ticket” event where more than 20 OOAK dolls are donated by artists.  Each guest of the festival will receive an equal number of tickets free of charge to enter to win one (or more!) of these beautiful dolls.  Check out the blogs Inside the Fashion Doll Studio and Dutch Fashion Doll World  for some sneak peeks of these beauties.  There will also be a Live Auction, dinner events hosted by Magia 2000 and Ninimomo, even a trip to Mood Fabrics with yours truly along as a tour guide!  Rocky was able to secure a number of tickets to the Broadway hit Hamilton, so many guests will be seeing this musical phenomenon on Sunday afternoon as well.

I will be selling fashions in the salesroom, which is open to the public on Saturday, February 18 from 1-5 in Broadway Ballroom Acts 3/4 at the Crowne Plaza Times Square Manhattan, located directly on Broadway between 48th and 49th streets.  Rebecca Berry, from Inside the Fashion Doll Studio, and I have collaborated on loads of giftsets and we both have new styles to share.

In addition to making things to sell, I have also had a lot to do with behind the scenes surprises that will be revealed during the course of next week, including centerpiece dolls and a Golden Ticket doll, both collaborations with Maryann Roy, and a Live Auction collaboration.  I will also be teaching a workshop on how to embellish a simple black dress in preparation for the Make your own OOAK event.  So it has been an extremely busy time!  But never fear, Bellissima Couture will be back to listing fashions on Etsy again in a few weeks.

Rogier and Rebecca will be posting all the exciting news from the festival on their blogs (links given above), so be sure to tune in to see all the wonderful dolls, people, and fun!

A crisp silk taffeta in a variation on the classic Burberry plaid makes up this lovely party dress.  The silk is French blue with a black and white plaid and a distinctive stripe of dark red.  The dress has a boat necked bodice and full skirt, with layers of black tulle beneath to give volume.  The shoulders are decorated with black silk bows.

A charming print from Japan of cat faces in black, metallic gold, black and white and calico on a cream ground.  The sweetheart bodice has a pleated band that stretches under the bust and over the shoulders as straps.  The full skirt shows off the adorable kitten faces to best advantage.

This fashion fits Silkstone Barbie best.  It may fit other dolls, but there is no guarantee.

The freshness of white and navy blue is a classic combination for fashions debuted following the holidays, and this exuberant bubble dress is no exception.  The fabric is a vintage white cotton with navy blue flocked polka dots.  The gown has a dropped waist silhouette that blossoms into a voluminous bubble skirt.  A halter strap of navy blue silk stretches behind the neck and fastens on the other side, decorated with a large navy silk bow.

This fashion fits Silkstone Barbie, Victoire Roux, Poppy Parker, Nu Face, and FR2

A frothy gown in pale pink is always in fashion.  The strapless, dropped waist bodice is made of pale pink silk that blossoms into a voluminous bubble skirt of pink tulle and delicately fraying silk chiffon rosettes.  A narrow band of pink silk with a silver and crystal bow defines the waist.

Another collaboration between Bellissima Couture and Inside the Fashion Doll Studio.  The scarf is handmade from pure silk by ITFDS and is based on an authentic Burberry design depicting adorable dogs wearing Burberry coats and accessories with the iconic Burberry plaid as a border.  The scarf includes a gold scarf ring for styling and an insignia box for storage.  The accompanying split neck sheath is made from black silk noil.  A black enamel and gold Eiffel Tower brooch sparkles on the lapel.

This fashion fits Silkstone Barbie, Poppy Parker, Victoire Roux, FR2, and Nu Face.
