Ma Violette

Posted on

One of my Holy Grails is the Violette Silkstone, so when I saw this beautiful floral silk chiffon from Japan I was immediately smitten with it.  I don’t typically make gowns, so I decided to use it to make this chic little bubble dress.

The bodice and underskirt are made from a beautiful bottle green silk dupioni woven with deep purple, giving the silk an iridescent shimmer.  The overskirt is made from the sprigged silk chiffon.  A chiffon band highlights the strapless bodice and a chic bow is the perfect finishing touch.

Brocade Cocktail Quartet

Posted on

I received a highly anticipated package of new brocades from India a few days ago and couldn’t wait to work with them.  These four cocktail sheaths are all made of shimmering, iridescent silk brocades, some woven with gold.  All feature waist details in coordinating silks and some element of sparkle, either in the form of beaded shoulders or a Swarovski crystal brooch.  I hope that you enjoy these cocktail dresses as much as I enjoyed making them.

The Girls of Summer

Posted on

Introducing five new fashions for summer made from beautiful, classic Liberty of London Tana Lawn florals.  Each fashion features an elegant, off the shoulder top with a feminine peplum silhouette and ruched bust.  A flattering pencil skirt in silk noil or silk dupioni is the perfect complement to the Liberty floral tops.  A silk bow belt accents the nipped in waist.

Each of these Liberty prints bears a girl’s name, hence the name of this edition, “The Girls of Summer.”

Delphinium is the third fashion in the series of Liberty of London fabrics that I have been debuting this week.  I love the clean combination of blues and white for summer.  A necklace of silver and cobalt and French blue glass Magatama beads completes the look.

This is the second dress in the series of Liberty of London fabrics that I recently discovered, of which “Cornflower” was the first.  A striking print of flowers in cream and persimmon on an inky black ground is accented with a sash and swag detail in persimmon silk.  An arresting necklace in gold oval pendants and Japanese Magatama beads in shades of coral and red completes the look.
