Coat Ensemble in Liberty of London “Ricardo’s Blooms”

A striking print from Liberty’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection, Ricardo’s Blooms is based on a traditional painterly roses pattern from the 1960s. It represents the Ladies Designer Classics Department on Liberty’s First Floor.  The classic swing coat is made from vintage Italian silk faille in a vibrant shade of pink.  Pale pink pearls serve as buttons and a gold heart brooch shines on the collar.  The coat is fully lined in the Liberty print.  The coordinating party dress is also made from the Liberty print.  Pale pink tulle gives fullness to the skirt.  A pink rose fascinator is the finishing touch.

This fashion fits Silkstone Barbie, Victoire Roux, and FR2

A Visit to Pemberley

Every year since I can remember, my Father read the novels of Jane Austen aloud.  Emma and Pride and Prejudice were always included and the other novels were included on rotation.  I consider Lizzie Bennett a close personal friend.  When I saw this new fabric from Liberty of London called Lotta, I recognized immediately that the ladies were wearing Regency period dresses (confirmed by my costume guru Rebecca Berry), and I imagined that the Bennett sisters were visiting the park and gardens at Pemberley.  The fashionably dresses ladies interact with wildlife that one might expect to find at a grand English estate, such as deer, rabbits, peacocks, and the like.  I was delighted to find that the fabric was created by Lotta Nieminen, an illustrator and graphic designer from Helsinki, Finland, who researched garments from her favorite BBC show “Pride and Prejudice.”  After finalizing the characters she went on to create something for them to wander in. A flower and animal filled garden seemed appropriate so that the background also interpreted patterns found on clothing in this era.

The fashion consists of a classic swing coat in light jade green silk noil, fully lined in the Lotta print.  Aqua pearls act as buttons and a pearl and crystal brooch sparkles on the collar.  The accompanying dress is made from the Lotta fabric and has layers of pale green tulle to give fullness to the skirt.

This fashion fits Silkstone Barbie, Victoire Roux, and FR2 dolls.
