Morpho Rhetenor Butterfly Gown

The colors in this stunning lace reminded me of one of the most beautiful butterflies in the world, the Morpho Rhetenor.  Vivid blue is edged with black and coppery brown.

The dropped waist, strapless bodice is made from an iridescent turquoise blue silk woven with copper.  The embroidered tulle lace skirt is black tulle embroidered with brilliant blue edged with a copper filigree pattern.  Layers of turquoise tulle give fullness and a hint of color to the skirt.  A narrow band of silk with a tiny gold and crystal buckle defines the waist.

This fashion fits smaller dolls, such as Poppy Parker, Silkstones (including the articulated Silkstone), Nu Face, and FR2 dolls

This whimsical day dress is in a Cotton and Steel print called “Cat Lady,” a fabric printed with lazy, lovable felines doing what they do best, in shades of charcoal grey, gold, and mauve. The V neck, off the shoulder bodice flares into a full skirt.  A dramatic bow in mauve silk sits on the hip.

Rockabilly Dress in “Bei Bei”

On August 22, 2015 a giant panda cub was born at the National Zoo in Washington D.C.  He is named Bei Bei.  I named this dress after him.  While from a distance this cotton print looks like an abstract floral, upon close inspection you will see that the print is actually abstract panda cubs.  The bodice is a classic sweetheart style with a folded band that goes under the bust and over the shoulders as straps.  The color of the fabric is coral pink, while the print is in a reddish orange.

Coat Ensemble in Liberty of London “Ricardo’s Blooms”

A striking print from Liberty’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection, Ricardo’s Blooms is based on a traditional painterly roses pattern from the 1960s. It represents the Ladies Designer Classics Department on Liberty’s First Floor.  The classic swing coat is made from vintage Italian silk faille in a vibrant shade of pink.  Pale pink pearls serve as buttons and a gold heart brooch shines on the collar.  The coat is fully lined in the Liberty print.  The coordinating party dress is also made from the Liberty print.  Pale pink tulle gives fullness to the skirt.  A pink rose fascinator is the finishing touch.

A Visit to Pemberley

Every year since I can remember, my Father read the novels of Jane Austen aloud.  Emma and Pride and Prejudice were always included and the other novels were included on rotation.  I consider Lizzie Bennett a close personal friend.  When I saw this new fabric from Liberty of London called Lotta, I recognized immediately that the ladies were wearing Regency period dresses (confirmed by my costume guru Rebecca Berry), and I imagined that the Bennett sisters were visiting the park and gardens at Pemberley.  The fashionably dresses ladies interact with wildlife that one might expect to find at a grand English estate, such as deer, rabbits, peacocks, and the like.  I was delighted to find that the fabric was created by Lotta Nieminen, an illustrator and graphic designer from Helsinki, Finland, who researched garments from her favorite BBC show “Pride and Prejudice.”  After finalizing the characters she went on to create something for them to wander in. A flower and animal filled garden seemed appropriate so that the background also interpreted patterns found on clothing in this era.

The fashion consists of a classic swing coat in light jade green silk noil, fully lined in the Lotta print.  Aqua pearls act as buttons and a pearl and crystal brooch sparkles on the collar.  The accompanying dress is made from the Lotta fabric and has layers of pale green tulle to give fullness to the skirt.

This fashion fits Silkstone Barbie, Victoire Roux, and FR2 dolls.

When entertaining at home, a hostess wants to be both comfortable and fashionable.  This ensemble is both, in vivid shades of hot pink, lime green, and red.  The loose fitting tunic is made from Liberty of London Tana Lawn and features elbow length sleeves and side vents for ease of movement.  A coral flower brooch (removable) adds some vintage sparkle.  Bright lime green silk capri pants bring out the pops of green in the print.

This ensemble fits most fashion dolls, including vintage Barbie, although the pants may not work for dolls with larger hips such as Severine and FR2 dolls.  If you would like the fashion to fit these dolls, please inquire.
