Classic Wiggle Dress in Klee

Posted on

When I was a child, one of my favorite books was about the art of Swiss-German Expressionist artist Paul Klee. Klee used a great variety of color palettes from nearly monochromatic to highly polychromatic. His works often have a fragile, childlike quality to them which, combined with bright colors and interesting shapes, made his work very appealing to me as a young child.  It was the colorful, abstract works that I liked best, such as this work called Flora on Sand from 1927.

When I saw this fabric, I was immediately reminded of Paul Klee, and so created this sheath dress in his honor.  Squares and rectangles in a variety of colors and sizes create a vibrant palette for this form fitting sheath.  The wide neckline is richly beaded with lime green bugle beads alternating with tiny magenta seed beads.

This fashion fits most 1/6 scale fashion dolls.

Inspired by this beautiful vintage bubblecut Barbie, I made this charming party dress from rose pink and white checked silk.  The crisp, full skirt is given extra fullness with layers of pale pink tulle.  The neckline is embellished with vintage flocked flowers in pink and white.

This dress fits Silkstone Barbie (Classic and Articulated), Vintage Barbie, and similar 1/6 scale fashion dolls.
