Yesterday I took three of my favorite new cotton fabrics and made some pretty springtime dresses.  They are shown on Silkstones, but will also fit Victoire and most other 12 inch dolls.  There is only one of each dress.  I will not be taking orders.

Juliet: Aqua cotton with a pearl finish.  The pattern is of roses and birds. The deep aqua silk sash and drape complement the pale aqua of the print.  The ruched neckline is finished with a cluster of pearls and seed beads.

Tuileries: A rosy cream background with a delicate floral pattern in darker pink is punctuated with rose topiaries.  I love this Tilda fabric, imported from Norway, via England.  A dark rose silk bow demarcates the bust and a Swarovski crystal brooch adds sparkle to the shoulder.

Nantucket Rose Garden: Back east, we call this color Nantucket Red, but it is also very commonly seen in French country palettes.  An off the shoulder, V-necked bodice flares into a flirty bubble skirt.

Hello My Friends,

First of all, I want to tell you how much I value all of you for your support.  When I lost my job a few years ago, I was able to turn to my sewing to make a living.  You are the reason that I was able to do that, and I am so grateful.  Over the last year, however, I have overextended myself and gotten very bogged down in making multiples of the same fashion. 

I am  changing my way of doing things from here on out.  Up to this point, I have taken orders for multiples of a fashion.  But from now on I am going to limit each fashion to one.  That means that I will be able to offer fashions with more frequency and variety.  It also means that you will not have to wait for your fashions to be made.  The first person to pay for the fashion will have it shipped to him/her the next day.  If there is a lot of interest in a fashion, I will consider making it again at a later time and would be happy to add your name to a list.

Those of you who have placed orders already, no worries. They will be completed and shipped in the next few weeks.

Although many of you feel like Winter will never end, today is the first day of Spring.  I came across this beautiful cotton in my fabric stash today.  It is a pale blush pink with a pearly finish.  Roses bloom luxuriously and swallows flit in and out of the flowers, thinking of nest building, no doubt.  A blush pink silk sash and oversized bow mark the waist.  The neckline is ruched and stitched with various sizes and colors of pearls.  Feminine and pretty.

A gal on the go can never have too many sheath sets, especially in vibrant colors and prints.  This vivid Liberty of London print “Picardie” was part of the spring 2012 line and was inspired by the film “A Clockwork Orange.”  A pleated cummerbund in teal blue silk picks up the teal in the print.  A stylish cropped bolero jacket in magenta silk noil is fully lined in the Picardie print and sports a covered button at the neck.

Summer is coming, I promise.

I only de-boxed the stunning Evening Gown Silkstone yesterday, so she got to model a new dress today.  An elegant, dropped waist dress in this striking Liberty of London floral in shades of coral and turquoise blue perfectly matches her coloring.  The dress is off the shoulder with a ruched decolletage.  The skirt is made full with vivid coral tulle.  A brilliant turquoise silk bow belt accents the waist.

This time of year on the Greek island of Crete there is a literal carpet of wildflowers.  Anemones, or “wind flowers” in Greek, come in a variety of brilliant colors with velvety black centers.   The brilliant colors of the embroidered lace and iridescent silks that make up this outfit brought back two weeks that I spent in Crete during wildflower season, the height of which is in February and early March.

This fashion features a full black net skirt embroidered in turquoise and purple.  Four layers of black sparkle tulle fill out the skirt, which has a dropped, black silk waist.  The corset style bodice is made from a vivid turquoise blue silk, with an iridescent purple silk bow belt.

I find that taking a break from commissions every few days can really help me creatively, so I have been playing with my Liberty of London florals.  I had just enough of this beautiful watercolor floral left to make this suit, so there is only one.

The sheath dress has a lavender silk noil skirt and floral bodice.  The cropped jacket, also in silk noil, has a round collar, covered buttons and a silver flower brooch (removable).  The jacket is fully lined in the same Liberty floral.

Today, the iconic Barbie doll turns 55, so I wanted to make a special, feminine suit for the girl with the world’s largest wardrobe.  The classic suit is made of a rose printed cotton by Tilda, imported from the UK.  The jacket has a shawl collar, decorated with a tiny cream enamel heart-shaped padlock brooch with a tiny pink silk ribbon box.  Pearl buttons run down the front of the jacket and a pink silk bow belt finishes it off with a jaunty flourish.  A pleated pink chiffon hat is the perfect completer.

When I was about 16 years old, I fell in love with a Jessica McClintock prom dress that I saw in Seventeen Magazine.  You remember those ads in Seventeen, right?  The prom issue was always my favorite.  I lived in a small town and dresses like this were not easy to find.  So I made one just like it.  Here it is and here I am wearing it.

Last week I posted this picture on Facebook and got a lot of appreciation, including pleas to make it for the dolls.  So I did.  And here it is. 

The dress is made of black silk dupioni with 3 layers of black tulle as an underskirt.  The sweetheart bodice is slit to the waist and two black silk bows bridge the gap, resulting in an alluring peekaboo effect.
